It was all manufactered just because it could be. Bowie's best ever end game and it worked. It was all a big sham...ending Bowie's career on purpose...clever old db

Look at it in a bigger picture...the album name alone is totally fake...its nothing to do with reality...its all about showing how good he is at faking everyone...he must be laughing. Fake album and fake tour. "Ha ha ha ha" wonderful joke Mr. Bowie.

Reality was a blessing, if that's fake then i'm a succer for fake tours, loved it and i'm very very happy i went 3 times, best memories of mr bowie and his extremely talented skills in musicmaking

You misunderstand my meaning. The tour and album were real enough but the idea behind it was fake...it was always going to be his last tour...the album lyrics spell it out.

I am drunk, but it seems to me that touring is too bloody hard a regimen to not mean it. Not to mention the actually life-threatening medical crisis and all.
Ah! Mr. Waite, the world of Magic is a mirror, wherein who sees muck is muck.

The life threatening medical crisis was expected by db. He was testing his body. Welcome to Reality...this wasn't the Bowie we all knew...he would never do a real world tour in tatty old jeans...he was bowing out of the worlds stage knowing full well that music was going to change forever. He's back now where he started from.

"The life threatening crisis was expected by db. He was testing his body."
What??
So Bowie went on tour knowing he had a heart condition that potentially could be fatal??????
No, I don't think so.
The 'reality' is simple enough. The hugely successful tour was cut short due to an unexpected bout of ill health. Thereafter, he took stock, is having some time off, may or may not return and is enjoying some private time with his family and various interests. Simple as that.
I doubt very much indeed if any of it was pre-planned or anticipated; and neither was Reality intended as his last album. I'm totally convinced of that.

Yes, some of the lyrics on Reality are pretty unnerving considering what's followed. Bring Me The Disco King especially (which I happen to agree with Nick Kent who thought it one of the best Bowie tracks of the past 20 or 30 years).
But I think it was Visconti who said a few years ago that he saw Heathen and Reality as part as a trilogy of albums that frustratingly was never fulfilled. And I can see that. I honestly think Bowie intended to follow up Reality with a similiar 'autobiographical' kind of album before veering off into something far more experimental.
But we'll never know now.

I agree with that Gabe , I think from 95s Outside to the Reality tour he'd really started to enjoy being David Bowie hence all the live shows he did in that period ,it was as though he'd really become comfortable in the knowledge of his own talent and popularity , I never went to the Reality tour ,first one I missed since 76 no probs with that though !
I suspect he may not tour again on any lengthy scale ,possibly not easy to get insurance ?

insurance wont ever be a problem. Having lots of money you will never fail the medical exam. Michael Jackson proved that. Plus other artists have had similar heart procedures done and even worse health problems and didn't slow them down at all. I would imagine Bowie's health is either worse than what we are being told or he has completely lost interest in the music business, and wants to spend his remaining years with his family.

David made it clear : he wouldn't make any tour as long as Lexi goes to school. He said that the Reality Tour would be the last for a while but i don't know what he precisely thought by this lapse of time ?
He said too that it was very important to him to be a good father, better than he has been with Duncan.
I remember very well his words but i don't have this interview (or i don't find it).
He didn't say he would not record any more, he was only speaking about touring.

BMTDK was an outtake from Black Tie White Noise right? So in the context of when he wrote it it was never meant to mean anything, he was certainly writing another album as he said in interviews in 2005 and on the Reality tour at lots of shows he said he'd be back again the following year definitely.
It was never meant to be his last album, but it's looking like it.
imagine you're doing this world tour, a huge succes , a few million people are applauding, and you're very happy with it, you're on top of the world and then suddenly it's all over, no warning, no preparation.
All of a sudden you're fighting for your life and you will get all the time you need to think things over, you ( maybe?) almost died and you have a very young daughter, a lovely wife and a very very succesfull career.
Still you have been knocked out of a great moment in your life, totally unexpected, not planned but you have to deal with it, enough shit to make many people react with a depression.
I think he's done very well considering all this

yes ... as has already been discussed MANY times BMTDK was tried out for several albums before ending up on Reality ... also you could draw similar conclusions from "My Death" or even "The Bewlay Bros" ... so to conclude Reality was NOT fake ... but this thread was.

This thread is real enough...What do you think db meant by naming his album 'Reality'?...BMTDK was kept for this album. Accept that fact...there will be no more new albums...Reality was his final goodbye.

no more tours i suspect ... but i think new music will happen at some point. i believe Mr.Bowie described the concept behind Reality which maybe should have been in quotes like "Heroes". Something about how everybody's concept of it is different and that how in these days of "reality TV", "docudrama" and "infomercials" that the word has become essentially meaningless.

was the heart attack fake too?...That is the reason for everything going so quiet. One you have a heart problem, you always have a heart problem and the last thing you need is stress. Do you think Bowie is going to risk dieing on his kids? Also, he missed alot of Jo's childhood. I would guess he is making up for lost time with Alexandra.
He has given us the best years of his life through his work. Time to relax I think. I hate conspiracy theories.
