Hi all, I wanted to ask about the original medley recording from the Ziggy Hammersmith show. Recently I replaced my vinyl copy from the 80's with a download from Itunes (yes I know). One of the key moments I always loved was the way Bowie's vocal falsetto's on the part where he sings "really you and really...meeeeeeeeeeee..." before it segues into 'All the young dudes".

Listening to it now however, the vocals are different, more restrained-I wanted to know if it was overdubbed from the original recording.
You can hear how I originally heard it on vinyl on youtube around the 3 minute mark:

Thanks in advance, and incidentally, the last 24 hours of Bowie buzz has been wonderful-it almost feels like 1983 all over again;)

where he sings, "you'll lose me, though I'm always really FREEE" had the 'free' bit overdubbed as a high pitched note, whereas it seems in the concert itself he sung it in a lower pitch.

It's one of the better overdubs to be fair, in that it had a positive effect on the recording, rather than being surplus to requirements like most of the overdubs on each issue of the Hammersmith 73 recording.

The next EMI Expanded Editions:
* What are your hopes for these releases?
* Let's have The Man Who Sold The World with the complete Paris Cinema Studios, Feb 5, 1970 radio concert, and the complete April 1970 radio session. Hunky Dory - add the complete Paris Cinema Studios concert, June 1971 in stereo, from the BBC Stereo Transcription LP if the master is lost!
* Any future live 1974 release MUST include a recording of Drive In Saturday from the early part of the tour, it's classic!
The next DVD release?
* Cracked Actor / Omnibus documentary must be released on DVD!

It's a backing vocal that was mixed high on the original because it was cool, and mixed low on the DVD reissue because Visconti did it.

There were loads of overdubs on the 1983 release, no? Didn't TV talk about this when the DVD reissue came out? Would be interesting to see a list of the most obvious ones......no I haven't got time to do it.

Likewise. But I'm quite sure it was audible but mixed back on the original bootlegs from the US / Italian TV showings etc and not a leter addition.

I love this medley - it's the most beautiful of Bowie's live performances, IMO.I was listening to it today and ended up putting it on repeat!

In 1982 Bowie and Visconti did a lots of backing vocal overdubs in preparation for the original 1983 release. It is mentioned in Pegg's book.
