When I listened the song "because you're young" I can hear a kind of telephone ringing at the beginning of the song (during the guitar solo) and maybe later too.
Do you hear it as well? if yes what does it mean in your opinion? I thought this song spoken about war and children but I am not sure, maybe you have a diffrent opnion. I don't see why there is a phone. A clue?
I think you can hear the phone at 0 minute 19 seconds and at 2 minutes 19
I think it was less the case in 1980 than now. You can hear a telephone after 19 seconds in the video you posted, you the player to count. But you must be very concentrated cause it's the guitar which create this phone sound, maybe if you close your eyes it's easier.

yeh, its deffo a keyboard/synth. in fact you can hear the keyboard start its melody approx 12 secs in.probably an organ type setting... then LFO oscilation or similar added, to give that ringing effect.
thats my take on it any how.
gazza 'synth player'!!!
I think I didn't explain well maybe cause I don't speak english very well and I must type short phrase. When I say I can hear a phone ringing I mean a sound like a phone, of course it could be a synth sounding like a bell or another instrument. I asked this question cause I think sounds like that have a meaning in songs and they aren't used only to sound "good" or par hasard. When I read the lyrics I don't see the reason why to use a phone ringing and I thought maybe I misunderstood the song or I don't know.
