I'm not convinced about the authenticity -- there is some pixelation around the right side of his head that stands out, as well as along the inner thigh. And the proportion is a bit off.

Looks like a passable Photoshopping/Illustrator effort.

Even if a fake, it isn't a 'bad' fake. Just a couple of minor things raise red flags for me. happy.gif

I love April Fool's graphics manipulations. I've viewed practically everything I've read online today with a healthy dose of suspicion grin

Re: Ziggy shoot pic.

What's weird is that I have the contact sheet, and it's very similar indeed to one on there - frame 6. I think this is the same frame as 5years, but it's not cropped. But this has to come from another roll, as that pose isn't on there even if it's been cropped out and moved - maybe Brian Ward did a 35mm backup?

It has been said before, but it still amazes me that the album photo is the first one on the roll. That's rock'n'roll....

good point

April 2 2012, 2:20 PM

you could be right.

Did he not have a head in the original pic?

Seriously tho, his neck looks quite long - he's turning into "The Thing", an early guise that didn't pan out.

I've just checked - Bowie was a bit of a sci-buff back then - "The Thing" was based on "Who Goes There?" is a science fiction novella by John W. Campbell, Jr., written under the pen name Don A. Stuart, and first published in the August 1938 Astounding Science-Fiction.

Given "The Thing" turned into a human spider at one point, the connection is obvious.

April 2 2012, 2:49 PM

Hang onto yourself there happy.gif

Your links don't work.

I did read thru the thread, but didn't have the time / inclination to check out all the links - and Bowie does look like "The Thing" in the pic anyway. The bit where the head stretched up (more than once, in particular from the human spider's body).

It's a bit of a shocker, really. They're taking the piss out of their membership by posting these faked photos. Remember the clumsy one from '1976' which they tried to pass off as genuine at Xmas? Every night on FB, there are at least 10 new (unseen by me at least) pics posted. There's plenty of unseen pics around without having to fake them.

Mist.

Bowie's neck

April 3 2012, 2:40 PM

still looks way too long in all of those, he really is turning into The Thing there, like I keep saying.

It's exactly like in the film.

It's Badgeman!

I remember defacing my first copy with a person in the window at the back. It looked terrifying.
