what a fantastic find. I have always believed Young Americans was not plastic soul and the fact that a black group covers Starman must make Bowie feel very proud. I knnow I am.

NB all gresat stuff and cheers for the link popp.

I'm struggling to believe this is real, but yes, it's good fun. Moonage Daydream is excellent.

"I would like to get the full album." so whats the full tracklist?

is it only covers from ZS? I mean that would still be cool.

You can tell..

May 29 2012, 12:43 PM

whoever did this has a real love and knowledge of Motown, Northern Soul and the Bowie canon. The fact that a Google search brings up almost nothing on this "Milky Edwards" character - i assume that its a "project" -ala "The Grey Album" by Danger Mouse. Its the sort of thing you could imagine Bob Stanley from Saint Etienne doing?. I have found this though

http://milkyedwards.com/

..which shows that as well as the previous tracks "he" has covered all of the "Ziggy" album. The voices seems to vary from the Levi Stubbs soundalike on "Moonage Daydream" to "Stevie Wonder" on "Soul Love" and "Tom Jones" on "Starman". This kind of thing shows how malleable Bowies material is and is a tribute to the strenth of the songwriting. In fact it almost sounds like its Bowie who has covered these songs for his album!

Re: You can tell..

May 29 2012, 3:59 PM

I've always thought that the opening line 'Come On Strong Girl' from the Arnold Corns version of Moonage Daydream was sung by a black vocalist. It doesn't sound like Bowie and it's pretty good for Freddi, given that he was supposedly so bad. The thing which flagged up these tracks as 'fakes' for me, is during the middle of Starman, the guy exclaims 'Good God!', which was a James Brown trademark type of thing. I suspected there might be an entire version of Ziggy done in this manner, a bit like The Leopard Band but it seems to be only these three tracks just now, unless I mail the guy.

They're still pretty shit hot, though.

Looks like they travelled to the future to secure a font for the album art:http://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&event=displayFont&code=MOJQ10005000

Can't take credit for spotting that though... 'twas from someone on rateyourmusic

With this kind of publicity there should be an answer about where the tunes came from. Or more tunes.

These have been around sometime. I'm sure they were mentioned here some other time. They're pretty good actually. If you are going to cover something you might as well do it completely different. I'd be interested to hear an interpretation of Soul Love.
