Just read that on that site that the Spiders from Mars to reform for Hammersmith gigs in April 2013. Which would mean Woody & Trevor. I wonder who would do vocals and lead guitar, and would it include Garson.. Will wait for confirmation on this before getting too excited!

Presume this info just came from the 1pm chat with Woody.

I'm not going to any of it because it will be filled with Shoreditch Art Students who like Labyrinth.

So....... that gig news is genuine?

Well, it's still up there, and with Woody having given a talk just before they announced it, I'd imagine the news came straight from him.

http://twitter.com/bowiefest

Bit of an undertaking to achieve. They'd probably need DB's blessing to play his songs & the only way it could work is if they find a 5hit hot guitarist, get Garson on-board and have a variety of singers to do a few songs each, as a tribute to the retirement gig.

Boy George, Marc Almond, Neil Tennant, Holly Johnson, Tony Hadley, etc.. would be the sort of names I'd expect. THAT gig was such a seminal event for so many artists that I'm sure it would be like a chance to live out a fantasy of performing at the '73 Hammy gig, like a time-warp stars in their eyes.

If they could get some next generation singers (Brandon Flowers, Brett Anderson, Jarvis Cocker, Elly Jackson, Gaz Coombes, Brian Moloko, Damon Albarn, Jake Shears, etc..) involved too, it could be really good. Otherwise it could be the sort of thing that might be done at Butlins or Peter Kaye's Phoenix Nights. A load of fat old baldies in drag, thinking they're DB (and that's just the fans).

I wasn't even born in 73, so I would get tickets as I'm sure it would be fun, no matter how potentially awful it could be happy.gif

Perhaps this 'Spiders re-form' is a 20 year tribute to the passing of Mick Ronson and may again use the boys from Def Leppard , Ian Hunter (who begins an American tour today & has a new album out Monday )and various others

Like seeing half of Queen there this summer, I'll be happy seeing Trev n Woody playing with some X Factor drop outs to be honest. It's our job to channel the spirit of '73. And also, they should have some cool merch. I can't wait although I'll be working on my wants list for the gigs now - starting with the necessity for the organisers to curate a decent load of glam rock on the PA as the audience arrives to set the scene. Queen had fucking genesis playing and it killed the mood straight away happy.gif

I would go....

...if they showed these films

- The Hype at the Roundhouse
- Dunstable 1972
- Hammersmith 1973 with the original, undubbed over soundtrack, The Jean Genie, and Round and Round
- the complete film of LA 5.9.74 filmed for the Cracked Actor special
- at least one of the late 1974 tour shows that were allegedly filmed
- David Hemmings film of Earl's Court 1978

It's not as if we'd get to take them away as DVD's afterwards, so is it really so much to ask? happy.gif

apparently it is...

------------------
The next EMI Expanded Editions:
* What are your hopes for these releases?
* Let's have The Man Who Sold The World with the complete Paris Cinema Studios, Feb 5, 1970 radio concert, and the complete April 1970 radio session. Hunky Dory - add the complete Paris Cinema Studios concert, June 1971 in stereo, from the BBC Stereo Transcription LP if the master is lost!
* Any future live 1974 release MUST include a recording of Drive In Saturday from the early part of the tour, it's classic!
The next DVD release?
* Cracked Actor / Omnibus documentary must be released on DVD!
