Heathen then Reality was a good a way as any to bow out.
But what if he did a low key, arty album exploring his more eclectic interests?
Lou Reed's gone in the quieter arty direction here and there, so even has Iggy of late.
I have been listening to the Baal EP a bit lately.
It's got some great textures to the sound - even though it's relatively simple by Bowie standards - unusual but very interesting melodies, and is reasonably adventurous (if you could call it that) lyrically (cf The Drowned Girl).
He had already recorded Alabama Song.
The late Robert Palmer also dug up some more eclectic older songs here and there in his career (Riptide being one of the more well known ones).
Bowie could do an album made up of Brecht / Weill and other more unusual songs - sure, it wouldn't be a huge hit, but Bowie has done art for art's sake / for his own satisfaction before, just a thought that occurred to me...

My guess would be a slightly commerical sounding album with a hint of avant-garde pop and experimentalism thrown in a la Lodger or BTWN with any follow-up album far more experimental.

A totally self indulgent arty type of album would probably be the only way he could go, to try and chase some sort of popular or commercial success at the age of 65 is a total non starter.
Far better he stays retired though as far as I'm concerned.
I honestly don't think he would be capable of making (or would want too)a commercial album these days.Although surely he must have a pile of lyrics written perhaps never destined to see the light of day.

hey Noel, I'm not one of the ones who posts loads of threads / posts along the lines of "why can't he come back?" etc...it was a thought that occurred, partly through hearing the Baal EP and Alabama Song as interesting diversions in a selection of unique singles cuts I was compiling for myself and I posted that thought here, as it's a forum, and it's free speech.

Sorry you have every right to say what you want to say. I suppose in my own strange way I am trying to come to terms that I/we are not very likely to hear a new album from him and even less to ever see him live again. It's like losing a friend. That may sound over the top but it's kinda how i feel. I've been a fan since I was 13 and I am now 51. So even though he is still alive and well I feel some kind of loss.

I'd predict an elaboration of Diamond Dogs...
only instead of Orwell's 19 & 84 - he went with the
more quotable "Brave New World" of Aldus Huxley....
at LEAST produce a bowie/post-homo multimedia
sensation
nice !!

I can see him working out his voice, and having a very good time doing it, by recording some audio books. Under an assumed name, of course, i.e. Pale Fire, as read by Mr. D. Blunderbuss, something like that.

Nothing to stop him from doing a movie soundtrack.
or even another Low type Album.
Fingers crossed for another surprise like we got from (Toy)
I would prefer to hear something new from days of old.
something from the vaults which we have never heard or even seen the light of day.
Not sure a new Studio Album these days would happen now.
I agree with (hm) his singing days are done.

How about a release of a live concert DVD or a compilation of all of his music videos with a descriptive creative narative from DB, his band mates and directors. Toss in a few Jems that have been hiding on a hard drive left in storage and I would download it off the internet.;P

He should concentrate on
making a nice round one
with a big ol' hole in the mittle of the thing!
What he sticks onto it is entirely on his agenda - I trust his integrity
and am not one to spend time doubting people I admire.
If he builds it - it will fly.
nice !!

NB I posted twice as I thought you might not see my reply to you further up the thread.

i think he might have done a september of my years of my years sorta thing.dylans last few albums have been mature albums, would have been nice to hear bowie do something like that.i couldnt see him trying to be jagger, wearing tight trousers and singing about picking up girls-much too intelligent for that.

I somehow can't see Jagger with a red mullet and a lightening flash ,he's got his own style and seems quite happy with it ,he probably still a 28 inch waist which sets him apart from other rock stars he never got fat !

For me Jagger still has it ,OK he a bit spaghetti western-ish about the face but he's still thin and still got a good head of hair ,we are talking rock stars not boy bands !
