Object?

The word was that Bowie: Object was scheduled for an October 2012 release, which would make it a matter of eight weeks or so now.

Given that there's been not a whisper about this - and that the holding page for the title that was previously on amazon has quietly disappeared - are we to assume that the book has now been put on (perhaps indefinite) hold?

Any thoughts, people?

Just been searching. While there's no sign of the book that I can see on the US or UK sites, there's still a page for it if you look hard enough on amazon.fr, which gives October 2014 as a possible publication date. Blimey.

We should all now be realistic and not expect any bowie releases with his involvement.i dont even expect him to sign any kind of record deal now for new or back catalogue.i think its all over.

I thought it was reported that Bowie himself put the project on the backburner, to focus on a newer project.

Me neither Nick. Bowie being a mystery was always a big part of his charm.

I have to say I'm amazed that nobody has taken that bait yet!

So, did I miss an announcement/ whisper about Bowie shelving the Object book to work on something else? What was the rumour there?

I don't think it was a fake, I think it was the real thing. Just because an anonymous poster left a comment saying it was fake, doesn't make it so. The style, tone and humour of the writing was _exactly_like Bowie. I saved the page too, so I can post it anytime and people who missed it, can see for themselves.

I think it was a very clever fake and know ( or used too ) the sort of person/s who would do this.

if he is shelving the book for a new project he is quite busy then.

he cancelled a highline performance because of an ongoing project.
always thought it was redecorating his appartment in ny, with the fumes of the paint affecting his voice...

oh well.

It might just be that Bowie has lost his bottle. If you look at the Fashion Rocks video, his first live appearance after the heart incident, he's incredibly nervous. He tried to be upbeat when he played with The Arcade Fire, but he didn't look convincing and then The Black Ball, coming out in a black suit, bowing, and appearing like some nightclub compere, he's maybe just said to himself, 'I can't be arsed with this'. That would be understandable, what ISN'T understandable is the complete lack of any activity and the lack of any official statements over the past few years.

Yes of course hes focusing on a newer project and that would be his retirement.face it gang thats it.an announcement in september how many times have we heard this then nothing.its all getting a little tedious now to be honest.there aint gonna be any statements from the great man he has left it too long now just gona keep a dignified silence how hes managed to keep it so long is quite amazing alsothe silence and loyalty of family friends and associates is also unbelievable.its sad to say that the next big event we will hear about could be when he leaves this well and his death and funeral will even be the biggest mystery yet.he is truly an amazing man

He's always started projects that wore out their welcome, but he got a lot of people excited about Object. It would be in character for him to have looked at the fake text and said: "Let's hire this guy."

Thank god the Object thing got cancelled I couldn't think of a more boring thing ,why demystify your influences ,sounds like a Ziggy 2 idea ,he scrapped that on advice too !

I think he should just make an album ,put it in a black cover with his name on it ,his mystique is at such a level he wouldn't need to promote it ,no vids, no pics, no interviews, just a record with no distractions !

Where is all this "it's been cancelled" coming from, though?

To go back to my original post, the last news I'd heard about this was that it was scheduled for an October 2012 release. Some amazon sites have amended the publication date to October 2014; while some have deleted all mention of it.

So, serious question: did I miss some news story/ rumour somewhere suggesting that the book had been "put on the back burner"? And if so, could some nice person recap what was the gist of it? (I guess the public announcement of a big davidbowie.com revamp, followed by no such thing happening might be a clue in all this.)

That was-it-a-fake-or-not "leaked preview" is still up online for all to see, by the way. Even if the entries were cribbed from other sources, I always thought it looked fairly plausible as the kind of thing that might have been thrown together to get shown to prospective publishers as a taster for what the book could be like. The "voice" was a little reminiscent of the notes DB did for that iSelectBowie compilation

http://bowiemyths.wordpress.com/2012/04/19/bowie-object-exclusive-preview/

Anyway.

Thanks much for that. I now remember reading it at the time - but had completely forgotten about it. So, to recap: what we know about whatever is or is not happening with Object is that we know that we know nothing. Glad that's sorted!

Those little dickie birds are not what they seem. Or are they?

My question is: What is Mr. Bowie doing that's more interesting than Object?
