It's weird now looking back that Bowie didn't play mainland Europe until 1976 , also don't think he ever played The Albert Hall either , even though I've seen some wonderful concerts there.

He did some european acoustic shows in 1971, and occasional other shows during the 60s.

According to Hutch, an 'extensive' European tour had been planned for 1973
and would've taken place between the British tour that ended in July and the big American tour
that DeFries had lined up for that autumn.
Seeing as the US tour was scrapped when RCA refused to finance it, the European gigs were probably ditched for the same reason.
Strange to think how different Bowie's 1973 would've been if RCA had just stumped up the tour money, eh!

Have those September '71 European gigs been confirmed now, hangman?
Presumably, the set would be close to the Friars gig from the same month - but maybe not?
Anyone got any more details?

I didn't know about any acoustic gigs in Europe in 1971.

What were these, and when (ie the dates)?

and more importantly, where are the tapes? happy.gif

Think the Albert hall was exclusively Orchestras back in the day! Unlike today where all genres sell it out for week long Gigs! even Phil Collins has!

Its a bit like car hire nowadays, minimum 3 days hire!

Weren't all 'rock' bands banned from the Albert Hall after the riot at the Mott gig there in 1971?

Not '76 but 30 year later.

David's last UK live performances were at the Royal Albert Hall with David Gilmour & they are magnificent. If you've not heard them, take some time to enjoy...

Think Bowie and the Lower Third played in Paris in 66 or 67.

I've never seen that backstage chat before but was that Bowies last public interview? He look in good humour and reasonably fit despite looking a little heavier which could have been steroids. I think something obviously happened just after that - only 10 years left but two interesting albums yet to come.
