Found this video/story to be very interesting...

16 year old Dane Dunlop (great name!) is making the trip over to Manitoba from New Zealand for a look from the Dauphin Kings. They refer to him as "aiming to become the first New Zealander to break into the "home of ice hockey"

He's been playing in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League. Have to wonder what level the competition is at, and how much of an adjustment he'd be looking at.

and then a writeup in the New Zealand Herald:

Interesting to see how they view hockey on that side of the pond..

Great story. Can't imagine he'll make much of an impression but he must have some $$$ to fly to their spring camp for a look see. I hope he makes it....but doubt he will.

players outside Canada and the US can play in the mj, unless there was a rule change. A few years back Dauphin had a player that was either from Russia or the Ukraine. In OCN's early years, 2 Swedes played on the team, Tobias Hall and Ronback.

Yup, Who else is gonna help in promoting the MJ....certainly not Portage, Selkirk, WSBs or the Saints. They're too stuck with their "keeping it within the city limits" rule.

no Europeans are allowed to play in the mj, plus he is under 18 . no chance of him playing in canada unless he is drafted or signed to play major junior. yes the rules were changed only international players from the usa can play tier 2 junior.

another jealous fan. Terriers have 16 on their roster from outside of Winnipeg and only 7 from within. The plan....get some hard nosed rural guys with huge hearts and Mix them with some high talented players from Winnipeg. Seems to be working....you might want to try it. Also, only 5 from out of province. Yep, this is a made in manitoba team.

11 Steelers from Winnipeg.
3 for Dauphin, but one from each of these big cities, Regina, Vancouver and Victoria.

Not jealous, just sick of greedy people that don't want to share the wealth that's suppose to go to everybody involved, namely the rural teams,....Geez, no wonder we're in a recession.

Stupid stupid stupid people

April 7 2009, 2:16 PM

Limited hockey knowledge compounded by a complete lack of intelligence (and no that has phuk all to do with how one spells in his/her posts you dumb bastards)

NO (do we understand the meaning of NO) non North American imports can play in the Canadian Junior A Hockey League

Yes at one time there were tons:
Stransky, Zdan, Molgaar, Moshkovski, Jas, Pika, Sjolund, Hall, Ronback...thelist goes on and on and on.

But like the movie says.....that was then , this is now

No non North American Imports are allowed, cry baby isolationist thought that they were taking skilled positions away from canadian kids, might be true, might not....not my call...all I know if that the Euros were fun to watch and added to th eoverall skill level

Not like the morons on this site

Imports vs WPGs protected list.....Hmmmm, interesting. The rural teams may have something here that'll open the cities well kept secret draft.

You need and exemption from hockey Canada to allow you to play and an international transfer to play, Beausajour had an Australian play for them at the start of last year but the paper work was done incorrectly and they pulled out on the kid. Can be done though
