How did the young Iwan kid look in goal? He may be the future for the Natives between the pipes. Had a good year at city midget Hawks and with a year with the Thrashers or Wild he may be ready for the MJ in 10-11.
Iwan is the real deal. He has been consistently the best goalie at all age levels. Very strong Work ethic and focus. He would play Natives next year if they offered him a spot and would only get better. No risk here. He will be one to watch in the future
Give me a break.....he was drafted last of all the Manitoba goalies last year, how can you say he is consistently the best? Saskatoon took Oswald before him. Seems he is not the best. Dont start saying he is the real deal at 15, we'll see in 4 yrs if he's the real deal buddy.
O'Brian is the only one that belongs there from pv. this kid can read the ice very well from a defensive point of view. and not to short change him, can also put up some points. the short coming for this young man is that he has a nack for taking the not so bright pim
O'Brien and Partridge will both be playing in Neepawa next season, if O'Brien doesn't go to the SJ. Partridge was signed after Spring camp. Mullin, Dalebozik and Pinkerton are all 92's and can play AAA for another year.
Obrien and partridge are both extremely hard workers and will do good next year. Good investments for neepawa. Both good skaters and can read the ice well. It'll be interesting to see them at main camp. How come obrien hasn't signed yet. Is partridge not wanting to play in sask?
O'Brien likely did not sign because he is waiting to see what his options are with SJ teams. The SJ has scouts in the PV area that have lured several players away over the past few years and there will definitely be more players from the PV area going West this upcoming season as well. Neepawa was one MJ team whose scouts kept a close eye on PV players this season. Also....the current coaching situation (or lack thereof)in Neepawa has vets and listed players concerned.
i heard obrien wasn't wanting to play in sask. i never knew partridge signed. he looked confident in spring camp, but the real test will be in fall. i've heard he's a whole different player from last year from playing a year in pv.
Good to know most of you are retards. Partridge is playing there next year, might ride the pine but he will be there. Obrien should be there and Im guessing he will sign in fall.
each team is given 45 cards at teh start of teh season
on Jan 10 they only have 23 cards to use.
At the end of the season they have none.
The cards they get these kids to sign is a card with last years date on them. (after all they are just printed off of hockey Manitoba web site) If they sign this kid in fall they will have him sign a 2009 / 2010 card. However up till then that kid out of spring camp thinks he is actually signed. But until he signs a 2009 / 2010 card and they submit it to hockey Manitoba it is all just fluff
very interesting, so what would happen if a kid signed a card after MJ spring camp that was dated for the 2008-2009 season and then signed a card that was dated for the 2009-2010 season in the SJHL?
they have these kids sign cards so they cant go to the SJHL. If they want to be an assssssssss they change the year on top and fax it in and the SJHL team is screwed or the kid is either way.
Certain Teams in the MJHL are famous for this Melfort is another one in the SJHL.
I go back to last summer. Look it up - Dauphin had a press release in Mid June announcing the signing of 5 players. 2 of those kids never made it through fall camp. Meanwhile they turned down countless other offers. and mid September they are looking for a hockey team as Dauphin released them.
More education needs to be given to these kids before they get there. Why do you think mjhl teams sign a 17 year old on fall camp and make him ride the pine. So he doesn't become a Canadian free agent when he is 18 and go to the SJHL or AJHL, etc.
It is all a big game and that is why the MJHL is lossing creditablity
.15 is right signing a card after spring camp does nothing for the kid except make him that teams property.they still have to go to fall camp and MANY of them will never play a game for that team as they will be cut and released.if any team offers your kid a card after spring camp you should say thank you we will be at fall camp but not sign and keep all other options open.i understand it is hard to do that but these teams are just telling the kids and their parents what ever they want to hear so they own that kids rights and he can't go any where else.
Neeps will be much improved this year. Stay patient fans. Top 3 in division is my guess and 5-6 scholarships. They may not dominate the division because it is so good but I think you could see that 35 win total again. Some very good vets and some ridiculous recruits coming in. The team will be large and some very talented players with very good credentials are coming in. Stay patient because there are some very good things happening.
85, 15 why are you saying the kings every junior team does it, are you that stupid that is sports. In all sports you have to make the team, maybe the kids did not workout through the summer. Sound like G Brook or L Henry talk alot but when it happens to you your mad
I am not going to name names on here because that is not my place. That will be up to the Neepawa team to do. I just know from some college and junior guys that there have been some very good recruiting battles won by the Natives in the last couple months. Some guys who were locks for BC, SJ and NAHL are now heading to play for Neepawa. The new coach has some good contacts and has had some colleges helping him get players.
71.17.119.76 your right, the college coaches are going to bring in the top 10 players in the NCAA to Neepawa next season. Perrier has come to an agreement with the mjhl where the age limit will not be in effect for Neepawa this season. The mjhl wants to gain more exposure for the league by having Neepawa win the RBC on Manitoba soil.
The Neepawa Natives are currently putting the finishing touches on a successful recruiting season and head coach and general manager Bryant Perrier is excited about the opportunity to see his recruits in less than a month.
The Neepawa Natives, who open their main camp on August 28th, entered into the recruiting season late as Perrier did not take over official duties until June 1.
Despite the late start, Perrier and his scouts are excited about the recruits he has coming in to challenge for spots at camp.
"We have some very good players coming into camp and have been very fortunate to have had considerable help in the recruiting process," Perrier said.
Perrier credits several sources for the success in recruiting - much of which was going on in the background.
"We have been very fortunate to have some people helping us with identifying some real good talent," Perrier said. "I have to give credit to Myles Cathcart and the scouting staff for being continually available to help and carry things throughout the spring. They have been available to always provide referencing and opinions. We have some good hockey people providing assistance."
Perrier has also been able to rely on contacts throughout the prairies, the US and his home province of BC.
"We have some very good players who received a little nudge from some NCAA people. As well, we have refused to take a back seat as a league. We have been able to recruit some players who were bound for every league in Western Canada because we refused to take a back seat. Recruiting is about selling the strengths of the program and not trying to be anything you aren't."
Part of Perrier's selling features is the strength of the MJHL.
"This league was 2-2 going into this year's Anavet Cup against a league that has dominated at the national level. If other teams aren't selling that fact, I don't understand it."
And while Perrier is not going to list recruit names at this point, "out of respect for our veteran players who should be getting the publicity at this point if anyone does," he is not afraid to admit that he is excited about his prospects.
"We should be well represented at the NCAA level in the next 24 month with this group," he said. "We have four recruits who are not far from signing with division 1 schools right now. If everyone does their job, let's hope that some veteran players can step up to that point."
For the time being, Perrier will continue to fine tune his recruiting to bolster a group that includes "size, speed, toughness, junior A experience and a true gratitude for an opportunity to play the game at the junior A level"
So where does this leave his veteran players?
"If they all do the work and come with a great attitude, they will love playing here this winter."
If everything goes to plan and the Natives are an improved team in the MJHL standings this winter, Perrier will be standing at the back of the line to receive credit.
"Players make a team and the community makes a great place to play," he said. "We aren't reinventing the wheel here. This town has done a wonderful job of keeping this team alive and if you check the archives, there have been some very good hockey people involved. I don't have to start at ground level. Those thirty plus win seasons are an indication that hockey was in town long before me. I simply want to recapture that passion and hopefully get better each year. People around here deserve it and that is what makes the long days worth it."
I am from Alberta and I know 5 or 6 guys who are going to Neepawa who are sick. I know that they have a couple 6'3 forwards with Junior A experience and a couple D men out of the US who are very good. Word has it that they picked up a couple of beauties out of BC junior A but have not announced them yet. I don't know much about the league but the guys I know who are going in there all had a bunch of other opportunities. All the guys I know who are heading there are close to scholarships. Hope this helps.
better pull off a miracle this year in Neepawa after he was run out of Alberni for the great job he did there. Why couldn`t he recruit all these great players last year for the Bulldogs?
Myles Cathcart is a bag licker. As a player he was a back stabbing, cheap shot artist. If he would put his $ on the table for this team ,he'd have some creditbility.Myles has made bad choices for this team time & time again. Now he is so far up Perrier's ass, give me a break already.
