Feeling For PortageApril 26 2009 at 10:31 PM | Humbolt Fan from IP address 70.76.69.170 |
| Well I just wanted to say that I feel for portage! I am a humbolt fan and listened to the game. It is to bad for them that Leoppky (sp) gave the game back to Humbolt. I am happy that we won but still feel for portage. I talked to some people that were at the game and they said that it was a penalty but by no means a 5 min major. From what I heard on the radio Portage had complete control of the game and we were out of it. To bad that a poor reffing call decided the game. Congrats to Humbolt and I feel for Portage. Thanks for the great series Portage. I think that it was your series after the called off goals in the second game and what sounds like a bad call in game 7.

Thanks - I'm glad at least it doesn't sound like sour grapes for us Terrier fans to complain about little man Loeepky - a totally very entertaining game until he decided to change the outcome with w VERY questionable call which I am sure your Sask refs would not have called. |

Humboldt is a great team, but up until that bullshiit call Portage was dominating. Leopky you are a complete azzhole, who was at one time cut by the Terriers. You've waited all those years to finally be able to give it back. And that you did in a huge way. You and every one in attendance know that in no way was that a five minute penalty. I hope you had your moment of glory, at the expense of a group of young men that worked their asses off, doing somthing you were never able to do. FUK YOU. |

Like I've been saying all year. The refs decide the games in the MJ. |

Wasn't there but want to know if there was an injury on the hit? If there was loepky had no choice but to call a 5 it is out of his hands. not always called but that is the rule. |

The kid was hurt, did not return to the game and had to be helped onto the ice for the ceremonies. Not a discretion call when injury happens. |

with injury is 5 minutes anywhere hockey is being properly officiated according to the rules. Ever taken a knee on knee? It is one of the dirtiest plays in hockey and can result in permanent injury and end of career. Kid will probably miss the whole next series and for what. He may even have seen his last game. It happens. Rules need to be put in place to protect the legs and the head to put a stop to these goons who are brought up to maim and injure because they can't do anything else.
Until the MJ starts taking control of these deliberate intent to injure guys and sends a serious message earlier in the season, this will happen again. The next step in evolution is to play hard but play clean. I really have no respect for a player who would do that or a league that would put up with it. There was a post earlier this year about this kid and how he goes out to injure. This is not football. Figure it out. If this kid was suspended before the game that would have been a blessing and Portage would have won.
If these types of players were reeled in earlier in the season then this would not have happened at a critical point for the Portage team who richly deserved to advance up to that point. I think the league and the coaching staff need to have a good look inside. Instead of listening to these morons who celebrate the injury of opposing players and who think that is what hockey is about, how about listening to people with a brain. Most of these morons who yell for blood and bring their kids up to hurt people could not stand the pain themselves.
You want to win an Avanet Cup? You have to look at the subtleties, as well. In the larger sense the MJ got what it deserved, not Portage. Players will continue to do what they can get away with. Goon hockey payed off big time this go round didn't it. The era of caveman hockey has been over for a long time.
That hit is an embarrassment to the whole MJHL and on some level the whole MJHL has to take some responsibility for it. Give a hit like that and you deserve a suspension on top of 5 minutes deliberate intent to injure, but you also need a psychiatrist.
I just hope that kid from Humboldt is OK to play in future.
Personally I am embarrassed to be from Manitoba when crap like that goes on. |

Excellent post .93,totally agree, said it all!!! Portage teams have always played on the edge...high risk-high reward.Recall many years ago Port.sent out the 4th line for the opening face-off and started a line brawl with our 1st line, such as it was,and the rest of the storey doesn"t need to be repeated. This time their cheap goon-type tactics really hurt them!! |
