I guess the Natives coach lottery will be announce on Wed. at the Natives Annual Meeting. Which of the Mckenzie brothers will get the job. There is 5 to 6 on short list so I guess they will throw the dice and see what they roll.
This should have been decided in April but I'm not the powers that be. So lets get moving on and try to salvage what we have left. Oh I see they finally have season tickets on sale for $165.00 Adult. GO NATIVES GO |

The gap between Smiths' junior and pro career was spent at the U of Manitoba where he was one of the top players in the conference. He was an unbelievably smart hockey player and I hope he doesn't get judged on last years' debacle with the Blues. He would most definately need some support behind the bench, but is more than capable of coaching at this level. |

When i do a search of the Penticton Panthers at that site there is no response, but i do stand corrected on the Vees name and I should have remembered this but the Senior team was the Vees for years abnd the junior team was the Knights until a few years back when they switched to the old Vees name. Never the Panthers to my reccolection. the bio athe db site does have Perrier playing for the Panthers so i apologize for suggesting .130 was bs-ing. The db site however is incorrect in calling them the Panthers. |

Couldn't get to the article, but is this the guy? I like the fact he has experience. Hopefully he has reflected on that experience and is a better coach for it. Also, with experience - will likely have developed many hockey contacts that will help with trades. Need to give this a guy a chance.

24.67.253.203 | Re: google | May 28 2009, 9:33 AM |
It is the same coach, just mis-spelled in the article.
The Penticton Vees have begun their return to prominance. Starting in the late 90s when it produced NHL players such as Chuck Kobasew and Duncan Keith, the franchise suffered recruiting wise because of dissatisfaction with Coach Bryan Perrier's style. Last season brought new ownership, and with it a new Coach in alum Bruno Campese, and new local recruits. Today's Wisconsin State Journal mentions that forward Brian Lebler (Penticton-BCHL), son of Badger Ed Lebler, has a scholarship offer from Wisconsin, and will decide between Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio State.
Perrier has coached off and on since the early 1990s. His stops include Penticton (assistant), Cowichan Valley (very brief), Merritt, Penticton again (see above remarks about his style), midget, junior B, Alberni (associate coach and brief stint as head coach).
Knows his stuff, but has communication issues. Also considered by some to lack in the honesty and integrity departments. |

Neepawa has the potential to have a good returning nucleus. If the coach has a good understanding of x ans o's and is a hard as* to correct some of the vets bad habits, then the Natives have a good chance to go deep into the playoffs. The key will be for the vets to respond to his direction rather than sulking. It may give some of the younger players to get more ice time when vets (20 year olds) don't respond appropriately to the coaches guidance. This will be exciting to see how the players respond. |

Alberni Valley Bulldogs President Andy Oakes has announced that the organization will not be renewing Bryant Perriers contract for the 2009 2010 season.
The ownership group of the Bulldogs organization has not been happy with the state of the club over the past year and feel a complete change in direction is needed in order for the hockey club to be what all the corporate sponsors, season ticket holders and fans want the Bulldogs organization to be. This has not been an easy year for anyone associated to this team and change is needed to bring the Bulldogs back to be a top team in the BCHL. Stated President Andy Oakes.
We thank Bryant Perrier for his efforts over the past two seasons with our organization.
Andy Oakes will be making an official statement and will be available for questions and interviews on Monday February 23, 2009 at the Weyerhaeuser arena in Port Alberni from 11:00 am until 12:00.

Agree that Neeps has good nucleus, but don't agree you need a hard as to get the vets in line. they are young men and they will party occasionally. Is that so bad. Do people think that these kids who are paid NOTHING in Neepawa should give up having fun becuase they play hockey. Cutting loose occasionally is good for them. They work dam hard to be in shape to play and deserve some fun. Yes, it can be overdone, but if this guy comes in and makes his zero tolerance for drinking rule, he will lose the whole team. In what high leve sport do athletes never take a drink? Moderation in all things is the key and it does not sound like this guy agrees with ANY drinking. He will have a revolt like he did in BC and our good nucleus will be gone and starting over AGAIN.
Use some common sense, have reasonable rules, enforce them and get the kids to buy in and you will have success. Be a dicatator with unreasonable rules and you will have none. |

Two comments- 1. Didnt David Aime play in Alberni 2 seasons ago, and didnt (wouldnt?)return to that organization under Perrier ? Also, Native players, so I hear, did occasionaly socialize (not out in public so much, but in private homes), but nothing by any stretch out of hand. Kill that, and lose the room, I'm thinking.... |

The comment was directed to on ice bad habits. Lots of little mistakes cost this team last year. There is lots of room for this team to improve play to a more sound systematic game. For this to happen the 20 year olds will have to buy-in, show leadership, and play the game plan outlined by the coach. |

Coaching style, communication and connecting to his players is key. Time will tell whether he's a "player's coach" or not. It all depends on the coach and the players. If they buy in then look out the Natives could be solid. If they don't then it'll take time to build a team that does. Some older players might have to change a few habits or they can choose not to and try and find another place to play. Play the waiting game and see how things go. Time will tell. |

Come fall, camp will be made up of returning vets, prospects, and a few guys from BC JrB recruited by the new coach. Both Houle and Shenher are back in the crease, along with a prospect tender and maybe a BC guy too. There'll be cuts after camp and preseason, but no trades until after about 8-10 regular season games. By then the new coach will have seen the other teams and have a decent idea of whats out there and what he has. Unless he is a total dummy, the trades will address weaknesses and the Natives will have a decent team. Actually, itll be kind of boring, no big dramas. The Kings will supply enough drama for the whole league.. |

You don't build a team around BC kids. You build a team around the best players. There are a couple of really nice BC kids going to Neepawa but there are also a couple of really good college bound players who were sent up by college connections or else I dont know why else they would be going to Neepawa. i know of a couple of kids who Neepawa has outrecruited BC and SJ USHL and NAHL teams to get. i dont know what they have coming in exactly but I know of a half dozen players who are good enough to play anywhere. dont ask me now they are getting them but they are. |
