Saints coachingJune 30 2009 at 11:12 AM | anon from IP address 74.216.122.244 |
| For two weeks now the Saints web page has stated an announcement to come this week. What's the holdup? Can't get a commitment from anyone? Are they waiting for Cassidy to decide if he wants to keep coaching or is there someone else they are waiting on? The players want to know. |

It will be made public this weekend - it's either Cassidy or Hedley, whoever will work cheaper! |

Dwight Neuman is a living legend. Plus he gets all the Saint players VIP treatment at the World Famous Palimino. He has a notch count over a 1000. Details were sketchy one night and therefore he lost his official count. |

The Saints are pleased to announce that Keith Cassidy has accepted the position of Head Coach.
Keith comes from a successful three year stint as Head Coach with the rival Selkirk Steelers where he led them to 138 regular season wins. In 2006/07, the Steelers won the MJHL title along with the Anavet Cup as they represented Manitoba at the Royal Bank Cup in Prince George, B.C.
Beside Cassidy on the bench this year will be two assistant coaches. Ted Ryplanski, who for the last three years assisted Cassidy in Selkirk will do double duty as a goaltender consultant, and Chris MacKinnon who most recently was the Head Coach of the Central Plains Capitals of the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League in 2007/08.

.... and he took Ryplanski with him too ... lol |

chris mcKinnon as an assitant in the mj? The vets will eat him alive if they can stop laughing long enough. They didn't mention that he didn't coach AAA last year but, was in AA instead. Can you say Way over his head even if he just shags pucks. |

Has interests in Winnipeg where his business is and so Coaching in the City probably makes more sense for him at this time.
MacKinnon will do fine. All Scots are great. Just ask them. |

Where's all the trash talking now about Cassidy?? When he was with the Steelers all you heard was he was brutal...couldn't coach anybody......anyone could have coached the 06/07 Steelers and won...etc. Now that he's with a Winnipeg based team, he's the perfect coach?? It's like any sport, you can't win unless you have talent. I am interested to see how he will do with the Saints........and I wish him luck. |

You also have to be able to see your talented players and use them and not rookies( Gingera ) |

Don't worry, Keith will find a way to roll 2 lines with the Saints - and if you're the team's tough guy, get comfortable at the end of the bench opening the gate! |

problem is he won't have 2 lines to roll and if hayduck sits on the bench he'll fight cassidy |

blah blah blah
Pretty sure the Saints will have at least two lines. And I'd expect to see way more of Hayduk this season - all Cassidy talked about last year was trying to get him on the Steel roster. |

Cassidy is no Scotty Bowman, but he can see the writing on the wall. Recruiting, trades, final roster cuts have all been underwhelming since the Anavet season 3 yrs ago, and Cassidy hasnt had the final say in any of those areas. But he had to coach the results. With the RBC vets all gone now, replaced by some real dusters, the Steelers are going to struggle to make the playoffs this season. The Saints will pick up some ex-dub guys, and if they can get a decent starting keeper they'll be fine. Unless they pull off a miracle in off-season recruiting, the Steel may very well be a train wreck. |

I see it this way:
1 - Winkler
2 - Selkirk
3 - Blues
4 - Saints
5 - Steinbach (will crossover & make playoffs for the first time since 02-03)
other side
1 - Portage
2 - OCN
3 - Wayway
4 - Dauphin - will not make playoffs - edged by a couple points by Steinbach
5 - Neepawa
6 - Swan Valley |

Addison Division :
1. Saints
2. Flyers
3. Blues
4. Steelers
5. Pistons
The question will be whether the Steelers' record will be good enough to prevent being bumped by the crossover.
Sherwood Division :
1. Terriers
2. Blizzard
3. Kings
4. Neepawa
5. Wolverines
6. Stamps
2 to 5 will be a dogfight, real close, and in interdivision play, Sherwood teams (except Swan) will beat Addy teams most of the time. |

Keith will bring his buddy Rutherford in once the Steelers cut him. Could end up with Korlak as well. Steelers will be in some trouble this year, at the beginning at least, but the trouble will not be because we lost Cassidy. I just hope the new coach is a bit better than Loewen and Cassidy. Petrash is good at getting players but his coaching selections have not been stellar. |

You were expecting Scotty Bowman? Perhaps Mike Babcock? Randy Carlyle? Or maybe Scott Arniel has done as much as he can with the Moose - I'm sure he'd be interested in coaching in Selkirk.
Criticizing Kenny for coaching candidates is ridiculous. Lowen got put in a sh!tty situation when Bender quit. Kenny stepped up as assistant because no one wanted the fcuking job. Hiring Cassidy was risky, but an Anavet cup and three straight years of 45+ wins isn't bad. Ryan Smith struggled with a sh!tty team last year after everyone bailed on the team, including Lowen and Leach. It'll be interesting to see how the team looks this season with him at the helm.
Put yourself in Kenny's shoes and figure out how many qualified coaches there are out there looking for jobs.
List 'em if you can. |

fyi, it's not about finding quality coaches. Steelers go for the least expensive, which also translates into least experience. |

most coaches won't put up with that for long, if they are worth their salt. Hence past history of people leaving and quitting.
You want a quality coach then you have to be willing to let him do the job. |

Steelers In trouble?????? - I find that funny...How many guys do you need coming back to get out of trouble
Schappert point per game
Jackson 88pts
Dickin 69 pts
Pawluk 61 pts
Gingera 52 pts as a rookie
Rutherford good 3rd line centre
Olson will be good with ice time
Michaud toughest in the leaugue
Jason Gardiner may or may not be back bonus if he is.
each one has MJHL final experience.
and on the website it says they signed the Scott kid from the Thrashers from what ive seen he will be a good one.
On defense they had one guy come back last year and that was Gagnon. and they still made the finals.
This year returning on D
Gagnon
Heide
Alexiuk
Robinson
Eckel
Korlak
And on the website it said they signed Kampen from the Thrashers another good one. Some other kid signed from the Vics Mayer or something like that.Possibly the other Schappert as well I hear he's in tough as a 20 in the dub.
so that makes 8 already thats a far cry from just Gagnon coming back the year before.
In goal
Rewucki record was 21-5 last year with .905
avg not bad
Back up is open im not sure who they have on their list.
So thats possibly 14 players coming back - how many quality players do do the blues, Saints and Pistons have coming back i dont ask about Winkler because they do have a good group coming back.
Of course it hurts that they lost Payne, Pleskach and Hawes but every other team lost at least 3 quality guys as well.
All in all if that is a team that's in trouble I would hate to see what the other Addy teams have.
But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

i would say the steelers finish second behind winkler, maybe third if the blues find a goalie. pistons still in last as it will take a couple of years to get the program running properly. that leaves the saints in fourth in a rebuilding year, and you can bet that simchuk and chartier will be asking to be moved to a contender in their last year. |

Trade Eckel & Korlak to the blues for nothing just as we did for Smukowich, we could of used Smukowich this year. |
