| The South blues just got commitments from two of there prime young players
Two Players commit to the Blues
Monday, 29 June 2009
The Winnipeg South Blues of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League are pleased to announce the signing of two Midget aged players from the Provincial Championship Team, The Winnipeg Wild.
Committing to the Blues for the 2009-2010 season are forwards Brendan ODonnell and Connor Cleverley. Both players played large roles last year with the Wild and will bring an offensive spark to the Blues.
The 511 ODonnell produced 83 points in 38 league games last season while contributing another 20 points in 10 playoff games. Cleverley scored 30 points in 25 regular season games as well as 7 points in 10 playoff games.
How much better does this make the Blues. If they get a number 1 goalie they could be the most improved team this year.

nice to see these guys in the MJHL and not go out of province. The MJHL as a league is going to have some very good teams this year and every night should be a battle no matter who you are playing against. The only question mark will be the Pistons, will they actually be competitive this year or will it be stats night again every time you play them. |

Good move by the Blues, players playing for the Blues will now know that they will probably play in front of the UND coaches at least 4 or 5 times this year. Good exposure for program and players. |

this is huge for the blues to get odonnell. He will be a huge help for the blues who now have a chance to compete with the other teams. I think the blues will be a fun team to watch and wont be pushovers like the last years team. also like the previous post said it will create exposure for the players and the program...GO STEELERS!!! |

The Blues will have the best coaching in the league so why wouldn't any body want to stay or go to the Blues. The board and coaches for the blues have said a pirority this year will be looking for scollys for the players and if anybody can do it, that's the coaching staff. They are headed in the right direction. |

O'D nnd Clever will certainly be viewed. A few more players may com their way, particularly if the Saints don't announce a new coach fairly soon. There are a few diamonds in the rough in high school and AAA in the area available this year or next. Problem is Blues have a fair number of rostered and potentially returning players, most of whom are not that great.
Is Dwight N. sticking with the Saints? |

The blues look to have a nice group of young players and I agree that they are just a couple of players away from a very good team. The most important piece to me though appears to be a number one goalie.David didn't get it done for most of last year(although on occasion he didn't get much help but more times than not he was weak)as the number one guy. They have a quality coaching staff and it seems that cockell is out of the picture for the most part so I believe that the Bluse might be the team to beat if the peices fall into place. |

Yes, the blues have a good group of young players but have you seen what the flyers have coming back? No chance that the young kids will compete with the likes of Peters, Suderman etc. |

some of the forwards the blues have coming back aren't chumps either. i was at a bunch of games closer to the end of the season and i see on the website that they only had one 20 year old graduate. that means that many of the forwards from last year will return. forwards like stoykewich, gravenor, kelsey, smukowich, zacharias, mencik and now with o'donnell and cleverly. it should be interesting to see these guys play this year. |

Why? Did he learn to skate? Change his name and he could not make a good midget team. |
