FORWARDS:
Dickin with Jackson and Pawluk
Schappert with Rutherford and Gardiner (or Scott if Gardiner is with Regina)
Olson with Gingera and Michaud
Hay with ? and ?
DEFENCE:
Alexiuk and Heide
Robinson and Kampen
Korluk and (gulp!) Gagnon
and
Overwater (probably with the B's for 1 season)
Eckel (might not make it if he's not gotten any nastier over summer)
Schappert (more than a safe bet after Christmas)
GOAL:
Rewucki 70% of schedule
Herle 30% of schedule
McIntosh - outside shot if Herle has a lousy camp
Peitsch - Dub or BC
As far as toughness goes - this team is VERY light, Michaud probably want to prove he's a player in the final year, I'd expect hard-hitting Craig Scott to drop the mits as many as 10 times. Robinson was great when he played with a nasty edge at the end of last season, for Korlak and Gagnon - they need to be physical to stay on the club. Love to have Gardnier stay for a physical presence but I'm sure he's traded to Regina for a reason.
Rutherford will suprise many this season - he (should be wearing an A) and Schappert (good choice for C) will be the real team leaders. |

what about Joel Ballard on defense?
Rated number one high school player last year (yes I know it is an inferior league) but all of the high school coaches agreed that he has what it takes to play in the MJ.
Sounds like he easily has the edge over Korlak Gagnon and Eckel.
There's also Lars Meuller, who could easily edge out one of the weaker defenseman. |

Alexuik is trying out for the Bisons so it would appear he plans to go to school next year instead of returning to selkirk |

As I understand it, the way the WHL tuition scholly works is you get 1 year tuition for each season played in that league. Also, you get a 1-year break between your last full season in the dub and when you have to start using the scholly. If you dont start using it (enroll in University) after that year, you lose the scholly. Most guys play dub up to and incuding their 19 yr old year, dont make the dub as a 20, play somewhere else (like JrA), then go to school. Alexiuk has 3 yrs of scholly, but was out of the dub as a 19 yr old (last season with Selkirk). If he stays with the Steelers this fall, it costs him a scholly year. He'll likely end up at U of M. |

Which means that the Steel are in big trouble on the D this year.Overwater or Ballard would be 6th or 7th D at best,Meilleur can play as a 5th or 6th but will always make the wrong play under pressure and is a hothead.Kampen will be a 5th D by year end.Gagnon will only get better but his size is always a concern.Robinson stinks,Eckel is a wus,Heide is probably the best of the bunch but isn't a top 2 D on a good team. |

Alexiuk can enroll in U of M and play in Selkirk. That saves the scholarship and keeps him playing the level he is best suited for. I can't see him making the Bisons anyway. |

Alexiuk will just be traded at trade deadline for a younger player because this is a biulding year |

Alexiuk could be shipped to the Blues at the deadline as they make a run at Winkler for the Addy title. |

dont expect scott to drop the mitts any more than once or twice. He will however fill the net with pucks. He's going to give them a much needed lift in scoring |

Well Dickin's a center - he'll be back with Jackson and Pawluk as per last season.
Gingera played the wing - but needs a puck moving center, so Schappert won't be with him.
Olson will get his shot in the middle this season.
The rest is up for grabs.
D will be strong.

Gingera should be able to score goals by himself, they shouldn't have to find somebody to feed him so he looks good as they did last year. |

45 of the 89 points come on the power playing with Payne, Hawes, Pleshcash, without them this year he wouldn't of got 50 points. |

Whomever thinks that losing Jackson isn't a severe blow to the Steel has ****e for brains. He played major minutes as a 17 and 18 year-old accumulating 128 points in 105 games including 52 goals....I know for a fact that he was pegged in the their premier offensive spark this year.
Makes you wonder why Jackson didn't let KP know he was leaving.... |

half points on the power play maybe, but still ranked top 3 in the leaague for powerplay points, and when his two linemates were on the other powerplay, it takes some time to get it in order as Cassidy would run the 3rd or 4th line, then come back to his 1st line and come back to pawluk dicken and jackson, sometimes it could be longer with penalties and such |

The posters who were on this thread at the start all put Jackson on the 1st line. Now people are saying his loss is no big deal. I think he would have been a key forward this season for the Steelers, and his absence will be keenly felt. Petrash pretty well has to come up with, recruiting-wise, 5 guys to fill the 5 of the 6 spots on the 1st and 2nd lines. Good luck.... |

142.161.248.40 | Re: re steelers | August 17 2009, 7:06 PM |
Losing jackson is huge, powerplay points or not, he is only 19 and was a big body who could rifle the puck. These type of guys don't fall from the sky. Petrash, you've been very quiet, when are we going to start hearing about some signings/recruitments. It could be a long year in Steeltown unless something dramatic happens. |

Would this make michaud trade bait? |
