| Has anyone ever seen a coach who likes to hear himself talk as much as this guy? He pretends someone is interviewing him every day and spouts bull****. Coach, you have a good team. We will watch, We don't need to hear your philosophies and bragging every damn day about the wonderful things you are doing. We all know Neepawa is now a mecca. |

Really, do tell who is this media man or woman? Why doesn't he just stick to coaching and leave the press releases to the newspapers. |

Bryant and Cam, perhaps you missed this in the last posts...
"It sure would be nice if the Natives Coach and Scouting staff stayed off this site and stopped using it for their own opportunity to slag players and try to convince people that their actions are justified. If you are so sure of your decisions, let the results speak for themselves.
Your propaganda releases make us barf, the interviews with yourself are hilarious and your feeble attempts at humiliating others to make yourself look good are just getting old.
Go play your game tonight and leave this discussion to people with a little objectivity. After all it is a DISCUSSION board which means everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Just 'cause you have to have the last word doesn't make you right."
Let me add this...
Atkinson = good guy; good coach; average team
Bateman = great guy; average coach--needed to be able to teach systems at Jr A. level coaching etc; built a decent team by the time he left
Perrier = sucks as a human being; decent coach. Put your on-ice results to use. The "oh, I care so much about my players" is getting creepy.
...gotta go shower.... |

I think people like to know what's going on. Half the people are bitching cause Selkirk doesn't even have a site. If you don't like reading then stay off the site and move on with your life. |

LOL. If you think that the stuff on the site is \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'what is happening\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\', I have a bridge to sell you in the desert. That is just a smoke screen to make you think this guy won\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t repeat what he did in BC.
Neepawa is a great community and deserves a great home-town team. With a strong executive, great kids and good billets, the team will survive. Hopefully the good apples can survive the worm.

If you believe a media person is writing that drivel, I also have a bridge to sell you.
Neepawa, you are being sold a bill of goods by a man who could sell ice cube to Eskimos, but is not a good person. He is a liar of a very large magnitude and is a scum of a man. Enjoy it while it lasts, because with him it will eventually crumble. |

Hey there 207.161.
Why don't you just stay off the Neepawa Natives Website.
I'm sure that the hockey executive know whats going on with the team and quite frankly, there is more hype this year than there has been for some time. Let us enjoy watching our team and we'll promise to keep a close eye on Bryant Perrier for you. DEAL? |

The Neepawa Natives are currently in the third week of their off ice conditioning program.
Coach Bryant Perrier says the players are enjoying a new approach to their development.
"We have a well rounded program that stimulates power, endurance, strength and explosiveness at this stage of the game."
The Natives are also utilizing portions of their on ice sessions to stimulate other areas of each player's athletic development.
"We are working on a lot of quickness, agility and change of direction on the ice," he said. "We are stimulating their systems to really cope well with change of direction and quickness with our practice sessions. On the ice, we are trying to build jack rabbits." (can you imagine this)
Off the ice? (jack rabbits)
"Off the ice, we are looking more at building strength, power and endurance. We believe we can change our players significantly in the area of fitness and we do not subscribe to the theory that strength needs to drop during the season. We have a group with a very elastic learning curve and they are game to get better every day."
Perrier had a strength and conditioning consultant attend training camp and after testing and the observation of many activities, the club was able to put players into groups where they were surrounded by players with similar body types and developmental curves. (who are the smokers?)(who are the drinkers?)
"Obviously, it is not a perfect science. (I guess not)However, we feel that I have an ability to have certain players really prospering from a workload that is specific to them as individuals."
"We have guys who trained with great detail this summer (Tully)and we have some who didn't exactly nail things down," (Frasz, Currie, Crow)Perrier says. "This approach is in place to make sure we are working with all levels."
The Natives also have certain players doing extra work away from the group. (frasz, Currie, Crow)
"Some players have an understanding with the club on where they need to be weight wise. We have really seen our billets step up and help in the area of individualizing nutrition plans for some players. It is amazing how our billets have stepped up and asked 'how can I help my player do well'?" Perrier said.
"Each individual has a weight, an energy level and a state they need to be in to be at their best."
This individuality is crucial to what the club is trying to accomplish.
"Right now, we are just waking up their bodies and getting their muscle groups accustomed to hockey specific workloads," Perrier said. "We want muscle that can skate and shoot and hit. We don't want dumb muscle."
What does he mean by dumb muscle? (well mlet me give you some examples Bryant)
"Our fitness consultant really warned against developing the body in a way that doesn't function specific to hockey."
Has the staff noticed a difference?
"I believe that we have noticed that our energy levels are higher and we are actually physically stronger and better when we hit the ice next time after a workout."
"Our workouts are to produce and stimulate hockey specific fitness. We have our guys clipping along pretty well."
Perrier says the Natives are standing guard against one thing that almost always plagues teams in the areas of off ice conditioning.
"We are really aware of diminishing intent," he said. "Every year, teams take off out of the gate and they go a million miles an hour and then the kids fatigue or they just stop."
How have the Natives conquered this?
"We are doing things methodically, based on the schedule. We are training right out of our dressing room area and in our arena. We can go right into our workouts and the kids can be near the room. It is a great setup for us. At the end of our workout, we pack up our equipment and the kids are in the dressing room. It is a great situation."
All of the work is so that the team can be at an optimal level on game days.
"The most important thing is that we are working out based upon our schedule. Our kids will go into each game with optimal rest and recovery following a workout."
Perrier says that the club has been focusing on building endurance and strength in manageable increments, with an emphasis on developing raw power specific to on ice excellence.
The workouts, which include a hybrid of hockey specific plyometrics, resistance training, martical arts as well as components of strong man and firemen training, have gone over well with the players.
"Our kids are getting things that perhaps they have seen in their own gyms and maybe even seen on TV and that is exciting," Perrier said. "We are giving them an exciting approach to training that is currently being utilized by many elite athletes in all sports. They can train like Rampage Jackson and Sidney Crosby all in one day. We are going after every area of their body and they feel great."
The Natives will be updating and changing their workouts on a monthly basis and they will reflect different periods of the season.
"Right now, we are getting our bodies ready for the season. Next month, we will know our group even more and we can specify even more individuality to programs."
A task that Perrier says is not a simple one for the staff.
"This is about each player becoming their best. We take the time to individualize. It is much more work but it is worth it. We owe it to each player to help them get better. These kids are hungry to get better. We owe it to them to give them exactly what they need." |

Ooo, we're getting touchy in little old Neepawa. Don't criticize the coach we are all bowing down to. This is his town. He owns it. Just ask him, or the staff at a certain store in Brandon that heard him say it. |

If he ices a winning team with players showing good citizenship in the community than all this other stuff really doesn't matter as far as what people think. Their 1-1 and if they get to the second round of the playoffs this year, then consider it a successful season. Hopefully we can develop some local players and westman players that will be able to compete in the MJHL and will report to the Natives in years to come. |

85.13.197.154 | Really ? | September 24 2009, 12:20 AM |
How things go on the ice is important(coaching), no doubt. That was Bateman's weakness. But you are saying the rest (managing) doesnt matter? Give your head a shake. Quit drinking Perrier's kool-aid. On the management side, he ran 2 teams into the ground in BC, and he's shown here in Neepawa that his ego has prevented him from learning anything from that. He made 8 rostered veterans "disappear", and what is there to show for those player moves ? Nothing like inflicting a little "adversity" on some unsuspecting JrA hockey players, is there ? Yeesh, its like a cross between reality tv (Extreme Makeover, Survivor) and the Church of Sceintology (brain waves !). At least he's cut back on those gawd-awful press releases the last few days. Hockey-wise, we need to thank our lucky stars that Bateman(?) put Ryan Bembridge on our list a couple of years ago, and his WHL team kept their 20-yr-old goalie this year, putting him with the Natives this year (coming back after the ex. season started). Too bad he'll be here only one season. The Board should have had him on a short, tight leash right from the start... |

216.36.180.237 | results | September 24 2009, 12:54 AM |
To respond, at the end of the day results are what matter. Last year a first round exit in the playoffs; this year anything less than a second round visit in the playoffs is failure. Yes, Bateman and the organization did build a more competitive team in short order. This year, Bemridge, Ritchie, Swerdyliak are all draft picks that in their rookie year will likely have an impact. If they get that Lawrence kid back from Calgary Hitmen, then it will be four.
Hopefully, they can add some locals and more westman players in future years. The goal is to ice a competitive team every year, which is accomplished by retaining your core, drafting and trading well, and additional recruitment;then, these rookies have to report to Neepawa. Once the players are on the team, there needs to be a system, solid x-o's coaching, along with player development.
Another indicator of success is the citizenship the players and coaches show off the ice. Everything else that has been said on this site is perhaps humorous or annoying to some, but really doesn't matter. |

At the end of the season, as a fan of the Neepawa Natives, we will see the results. If they meet or exceed what should be expected, you will have a happy fan ready to support the team. If you have unexpected results, then the griping on here will continue, and you will have less and less community members supporting the team with paid attendance and other monetary contributions such as the cash draw. This is a pretty simple assessment and guide for the executive to evaluate the evolution of this team. |

216.36.180.237 | reminder | September 26 2009, 1:38 AM |
All goals on pp accept first. PP and PK are important components in winning. Swan's PP in third result of what type of penalties? D-man positioning in d zone, d man give away puck in d zone, d man not staggering on weak side which resulted in an odd man rush. Remember x-o's. It is concerning veteran d-men made these mistakes. | |
