i wouldn't come on here and gloat about that win
kings made the most of their advantages, but they barely squeaked by the Stamps
Dauphin needs a lot of work if they're going to win the RBC
heck a couple of more players and the Stamps will be pushing the Kings
dauphin barely celebrated their win. they barely hung on.
fans gave the Stamps a loud applause after the loss.
it was a great game. fans left entertained. all that was missing was the win

I especially liked Marshall's goal, him against 4 dauphin players, he dangled them all out, and scored.

I am a Kings fan and happy about the win. Listened to Murray on the post game interview and while he was happy with the 2 pts he gave Kirkup and the Stamps full marks for pushing them hard. Should be a good rivalry all year.

Swan did very well against the team ranked third in all of Canada.Flawless hockey will be required to beat these guys and that means no questionable passes like the one resulting in Dauphins 1st goal and the let-down once again in the 2nd. period with bad penalties.Dauphin rolls 4 good lines with Swans 2...is that the difference? Head to head,Ward probably out-played Caliguire[sp??]but our guys missed a couple of glorious chances late in the game, especially Stephens.Dauphin will only get better as all these new faces get to know one another...goaltending might be an issue.Swans the real deal though!!!!!!

not so easy

October 7 2009, 10:09 PM

The mighty queens won by a five on three goal.Didn't look like RBC winners to me.The young stamps
did well, but they need to stay out of the box. 2 stupid penalties tonight. These 2 will have great games all season, either could win.

Excellent game by the Stamps. Dauphing did not look like the almighty team they are made out to be by any means. Couple of lucky bounces and a couple of chance swan should have buried were the difference. Not even counting that Eggie was wearing a Kings jersey in the second. Dauphin better send him a case of beer after this showing. And Dreger.........ugh.......beaks all night and when the time comes to back his mouth up I think he shyte his pants..pretty sure I saw steam rolling out the back of his pants as he got ready for the whistle......no pride at all. Riddell needs to stop and think things out when he gets into a fight. One goal game with five minutes left and one of our top players decides its a good time to fight. All in all a great game though and would pay to watch that all year long if both teams can keep it up.

Agreed. Riddell: Give your head a shake. BAD time to drop the mitts. We've only got 5 guys that can put the puck in the net and you're one of them.....simple math to me. Put the team ahead of your own agenda next time and we may have snuck a point or two out of tonights game.
Bad penalties at bad times was the only real difference. Straker/Peel as well as Wilson's in the second period cost us badly. Stevens/Riddell's bad decisions to snow the goalie (Stevens) and fight (Riddell) hurt the Stamps in the third. Even though Stevens took a guy with him, we need him on the ice.
Finally, is it just me or did Kirkup play our sh**ty fourth line too much? Guys like Coulthart, McDonald and Peel need to have a permanent seat on the bench late in a game such as this.
Oh well, in the end if we can ever be positive coming off a loss, this could qualify as that time. Fine tune the mistakes and who knows, maybe we can beat the mighty Kings at some point this year.

Sorry I don't agree with your criticism for Riddell. With Dauphin already having Paull in the penalty box he dropped the mitts with the best all around defenceman in the MJHL (Kings Captain Shamanski). With the Stamps needing one goal to tie the game he made the ultimate sacrifice realizing the loss of Shamanski was a bigger loss to Kings as they would be missing best dman for 5 of last 6 minutes of game.

The Stamps third line center took another lazy penalty and stood still in the slot and watched Luke score the unassisted go ahead goal (making it 2-1).

#23 and #19 need to finish checks, get in creases, provide face washes, draw penalties, and be shift disturbers (ie Jarkko, Barnaby). if they are to be on this team by January 10. Big difference between PITA penalties and hooking penalties. #19 will never be a scorer so if he isn't displaying grit in corners, finishing checks, and mixing in a little sandpaper and intimidation, how does he stay in lineup.

Like to see a game by game rotating combo of McDonald, Pennel, Peers and Houde to determine which of the latter three is going to distinguish himself.

Peel is a 4th line player imo. No offence, doesn't draw penalties, isn't tough, and isn't displaying speed and "battle" showin in camp/pre-season when he earned letter.

Ward good

Defence good, Straker really stepped up when both toughness and offence was needed.

Top 6 forwards good (need Selinger/Herbel to show grit in puck battles)
3rd line - Mac/Pen showed good flashes, need more consistency
4th line - Obvious Houde isn't a 4th line player (imo) needs another shot, Marmen tried to throw a few hits, other guy as above (I just can't understand how he can turn away from finishing checks and goal mouth scrums and expect to be of value to club).

Overall, very good team performance. Confidence builder knowing they can play with any team in the league.

Stamps are for real (but so are 4 other teams in the Sherwood)

Re: not so easy

i would have to agree riddell did take a good d man with him into to penalty box so it was ok. as for stevens, i dont know about that penalty. completely pointless and the stamps need him out there in order to score. as for the stamps third and fourth lines.. they have to pick up the offense. our top two lines cant always do it all. Outta the two lines they have four goals.. Mcdonald with one, Houde with one and Peel with two. But i definetly don't think they are playing bad. The third line buzzed around with pretty much all there shifts in the offensive end. Mcdonald played well with soem good battles for the puck, Pennel played well again and Peel had alot of good hits. Overall I think the stamps played well. its too bad that the first goal went in as it was fairly weak. lets stay positive here in the valley. we had something to complain about last year but this year we might have a winning team.

Re: not so easy

can't say I disagree with many opinions here but I stand by my point on Riddell picking a BAD time to fight. I don't care if Shamanski is the best dman in the league. The point is that we only have 5 guys that can score and with Stevens already in the penalty box and Riddell 'sacrificing' himself, that basically leaves us with Marshall to try and tie it up himself. At that point, the Kings don't need Shamanski to defend the defensive zone. The rest of their dmen are more than capable of clearing the puck off the glass.
And.....did we score with Shamanski in the box (along with Riddell)? Of course not. Now explain to me how Riddell 'sacrificing himself' was a smart move?
Riddell = needed on the ice late in a close game.
End of story.

well kings had an alright road game, but they havent been on the ice since the portage game. some concert was going on and they couldnt get ice, they were doing dryland the last 3 days, so that does have an effect on the players not being able to skate then going straight into a game? i give the kings full credit on pulling out a win, not saying the stamps are bad at all, sounded like a good game on the radio.

The top 2 lines are carrying the load right now and they both look pretty good. Last night the third line with Peel, Pennel and McDonald played more like they need to. More forechecking and both Peel and McDonald had quite a few hits. I would like to see Peers, Riddle and Houde on the 4th line.

Re: not so easy

Either way we were 15-20% to score in the last few minutes to tie it up. So we can agree to disagree, I can live with that. I see their defence downgraded more than our offence for a long stretch (short bench affects dmen more than forwards imo also).

Back to the positive that perhaps we can agree on. Good game Stamps, good luck at Showcase!

All the stamps need right now is a big tough guy. Straker is no heavy weight to go with the big boys and only picking who he wants to go with, and Wilson yaps but can't back up his mouth. So who is left too look after Marshal and Stevens who can handle himself very well but shouldn't have too????
