Chemical for Purposeful Brass Tarnishing, need info

Does anybody know what can tarnish brass or change its color etc. besides letting outside weathering do it. Also wheres a good place to get information and materials on lacquering wood a solid color. I Got an idea for an art project, I'd much appreciate any info.
