BB & CC & RFL, et al:

"BattleBots" is basically just Trey and Greg, everyone else is little more than a "temp" or employee. T&G let the others go since Comedy Central declined to produce the sixth season of BattleBots, and thus there was no reason to have any employees, except for the one or two people left handling toy deals and TV royalty checks.

Thus, BattleBots may not be actively fucntioning (meaning setting up and/or running a competition) but they definitely still exist as a business and/or corporation. Try and Greg are, apparently, actively seeking another outlet to broadcast the next season of BB.

In any case, there are now, currently, more venues in which you could enter a fighting robot, than there were even back in May when Season 5.0 was being filmed.

There's BotBash, the upcoming Battle at the Beach, several Robot Fighting League events (one of which is, as I recall, taking place this very weekend) RoboCide, NCRSF, and others I'm sure I've forgotten.

Plus, there's now events for "Antweights" (one pound), "Beetleweights" (three pounds), "Hobbyweights" (12 or 30 pound), "lightweight" (BB-standard 60-lb), "Middleweight" (BB-standard 120-lb), "Heavyweight" (BB-standard 220-lb) and "Superheavyweight" (BB-standard 340-lb) and some of the venues optionally allow flame weapons and entanglement devices (prohibited in BB) so right now, you actually have more options.

Personally, I would seriously love to put together an antweight and find a dozen like-minded sorts here in AK. There's an Ant called "One Fierce Beer Coaster" that's a full-body shell spinner something like a mere 4" in diameter and not quite an inch tall. The shell does something like 8,000 rpm.

A "Battlebox" for Ants can be a mere three or four feet square, built for cheap, and antweights can be made for less than one wheel hub's cost on a heavyweight.

Ah, if I just had some free time...

Doc.
