AK resident would get more jobs and the state more revenue of course but that's just the start. Currently the US inports only 40% of it's oil from sources other than North and South America. Imagine the bouying effect on our economy if we elimated most of that 40%. Ceasing to buy oil from countries who'd like to see the US reduced to rubble can only have a positive effect. Between ANWR and Brazil's new strikes we could only import from allies.
And while we're at it, biofuel can be made much more cheaply and efficently from sugar than food stocks (corn, soy, whatever). But due to a powerful sugar lobby, we can't import cheap sugar from Brazil or greatly boost US production. That's a great use for some bog land in Florida, Louisana etc. Oh wait, wet lands are holy everywhere.
