Vehicle anti Theft options?...warning long winded post
by
Alrighty.. a bit of back story. I own an 1987 chevy el camino. In pretty good shape. About 3 years I decided to invest in a stereo because my daily commute was roughly 100 miles to work and back, and I had a gf who lived 100+ miles away that I visited weekly.. now before the stereo I didn't have anything so this was a big step up..
I invested nearly 3 grand into the car and got a really nice stereo.. well in the 3 years I had it, I never got broken into, not when I was visiting my gf in Los Angeles, not when I lived in the bad part of Orange County and riverside county.
I always feared theft and did minor modifications to help prevent it (changing my windows so that they went up further, and removed the door lock knob from the inside to prevent someone from using the "coat hanger" to get in), but I never invested into an electronic alarm.
Well after living in San Diego for 6 months, my car was broken into, they got my cd's (over 300), the head unit ($300), and 2 of my amplifiers (don't remember the price). I never blasted my stereo around my house, or left my cd's out in plain view (hidden under passenger side seat). But I took solace in the fact that I still had all my speakers, and the wiring wasn't messed up. I planned on gutting the car until I could afford the best way to protect it and rebuild it. Well last night ( about a week from the first break in) they broke in again and got my subs and sub box.. and the speakers they couldn't promptly removed, they destroyed just to spite me....this I'm really upset about
Now I wonder if anyone has ever thought about making a deadbolt so to speak for thier car door? Or any other custom anti theft options? I spend alot of time in my car so going without a stereo doesn't sit well with me. I plan on putting in an on/off switch on the ignition wire so that if this hidden switch is in the off position you can't start the car.
And I'm trying to figure out some other things I can do to protect my car.
