Fixing cast...

Some guys that Dad worked with years ago repaired a transmission housing that had cracked pretty bad. The process involved heating up the whole housing with two of the biggest rosebuds that Purox made, and then having a third torch to lay a bead in the crack. Afterwards, they buried the case in either slacked lime or wood ash (I don't remember off the top of my head) so it would slowly cool. IIRC, they let it cool about a week or so before they dug it up....
