Those are some seriously stupid laws.

I mean lets look at this realistically, there is bugger all risk of hitting someone nasty , and take some simple protections such as carrying a mobile phone and SMSing the number plate + name of driver + locations + travel times to a buddy and having a regular check in every day and you are pretty safe.

I've never hitch hiked and I'm an aussie but when you look at it critically and logically the risks just aren't there. Honestly it's a symptom of current governmental trends throughout the world. Personally I'd like to see a Gov't based around accountability , transparency , sustainability , educating the people and laws based on risk rather than on gut feelings to satisfy the dogma/agenda of the party and getting re-elected by the public. If we had a few governments throughout the world based upon that the world wouldn't be in half the shit we are currently in.

Cheers,
Ze
