After Action Report

by

I keep about 30 days worth of food on hand at all times. Batteries, etc.

Preparations included bringing in all out door crap, getting my 4x4 in proper order, and filling fuel tanks.

Unfortunately, I'm "alpha" so I had to be at the water production facility I work at. My ex-wife is also a city employee and had to staff a shelter. Our daughter rode out the storm at a friend's place. This arrangement really chaps my ass. If I have a minor child, one of the guardians had damn well better be able to care for that child during a storm. And I'll be damned if she's going to a shelter with the guardian who's supposed to be working there.

So, work perp for me was testing UPS batteries, sealing up enclosures, checking SCADA/PLC redundancy, getting snacks, drinks and movies to entertain myself.

Went into work 7:30 Saturday morning. There was wind, there was rain, there was a glitch when the operators tried to start one of our big pumps (the generators can run them, but can't start them). Then we got permission to go home around 23:30. Drove through a foot and a half of water, off road around a downed tree, got home and all was well.

The storm seemed to be much adu about nothing, but we seriously dodged a bullet. This could have been much worse.
