My Nissan Leaf will charge to 80% (on a 24kwh battery back) in about 30 minutes. The level 3 "quick charge" chargers aren't available in most of the US, though, because after having the ChaDeMo standard port being used for YEARS in japan (quick chargers are relatively common there) and being avaialable on every single electric car currently produce except the volt, GM lobbied the local standards organization to adopt a completely new made-up standard. Now locals are afraid to go with either because of the fear of losing out on competing standards.
As a note, the latest batch of L3 ChaDeMo chargers on the market require a standard 220v supply (rather than the 440 needed previously). They draw 350A max, so it does need a beefy supply, but nothing that an electric company would have issues getting to a commercial supply location.
Also, I'm getting about 3c per mile... I'd bet in a motorcycle, you could hit half that!
