In a modern world I think it is just as important to know and understand as any other manufacturing and fabrication technique. Combined with CNC machining and techniques like resin infusion or resin transfer molding it provides a lot of oppertunities and possibilities. On the flipside it can be extremely frustrating to make work in a low-investment organisation where shortcuts and do-withouts actually create more work and threaten to ruin a product - in that case it is no different form any other manufacturing business.
