Linux(ish) password reset?

by Clueless

OK, I know little to nothing about Linux in general. Here's the situation. We have a big Xerox Workcenter that has this print server attached to it that is running LynxOS, which seems to be some offshoot of Linux?

Anyways, we have no idea what the username or password is on this thing. It's been here forever. Naturally, we need to get into it now, and can boot to the username: line, but nothing past there.

It seems changing passwords should be easy (according to the net), but then it starts in on single user mode and I'm lost. Is there an easy way (explainable) that I can reset the password to get into this thing?
