Very different model...by Anonymous CowardAh... one of those models. Mine had a monitor attached to it and the server lived inside the copier.
LynxOS AFAIK does not have a shadow file like Linux - it still uses the old-school /etc/passwd - or at least it did last time I had to mess with it.
I believe you said it can be successfully booted to a prompt in single-user mode?
If it does, and you type "cat /etc/passwd" does the first line read something like root: and a random string and several other fields separated by colons?
