Curious as to definition of "Real"....?

by Thru-Hiker

Seriously, not trying to troll, but I've always been curious as to the definition of "real" when used in such contexts. Like calling Rugby a "real" sport. Is that as compared to something like mental gymnastics, which don't exist, thus meeting the "not real" definition?

I see the "real" tag get attached to all sorts of thing. "Real" beer. A "real" man. Just not sure what I'm supposed to credit to something if it gets the "real" tag.

Anyone?
