Will be checking the timing belt.

by Snowtroll

Especially as the water pump is driven by that belt.

Unfortunately, I may have an additional problem there.
On the oldest engines you can't properly tension the timing belt yourself, you need an electronic device to test the tension.
Later on they mounted an automatic tensioner that handles all that.
If I have the older edition, I can remove the old pump, install the new, and 'rough tension' the belt, but the final adustment will have to be done in a shop.

Unless someone has a SEEM C.TRONIC Type 105 Belt tension meaurement device to lend me, that is...
The belt is part of the normal service schedule, but as we all know, things happen...

You don't see any new French cars in California...
None of the manufacturers are willing to go through the hassle.
