Thanks to the same enviroweenies China currently controls nearly 95% of the world's production of rare earths.Actually it's due to the fact that the USA doesn't allow entire lakes to be turned into toxic acid sludge from dumping of refining wastes, and that there's currently no market for the associated (and expensive to separate) thorium in most RE deposits, but don't let facts get in the way of a good rant.
For all the talk of saving the environment, enviroweenies are more than happy to buy these products from China. For the record I'm not, but you can't buy them from anywhere else. Even US companies like A123 Systems are moving their production to China. The problem is US (de-)industrial policy.
they are more than happy to let Chinese citizens die nasty, lingering deaths for their cause without a word to their plight.Since you're talking about me in particular, I have long said that people living in polluted countries (like the Chinese) would go for David LeBlanc's denatured molten-salt reactors in preference to coal, but the Chinese public has never been given a vote in the matter. But again, never let facts get in the way of a good rant.
