Are there any actual paintball players left on this board?
Don't take that wrong, that's not any kind of insult and certainly wasn't meant to be. It's just that today's strip was aimed at paintball players, and I knew it was going to be a but meh for everyone else.
Even for a player it's not uproariously funny, but it's at least amusing. It's like asking why every computer has a keyboard, and being given an obviously-silly answer like "It gives you a place to stick your gum when you're done with it."
In reality, virtually no one cleans their barrels- or much of any of their other PB gear- in the dishwasher. It wasn't a thing before, and it's not a thing now. Any even midly interested player knows that the reason behind 2-piece barrels is to offer a selection of bore sizes, for different sizes of paint, without quite as much expense as a similar set of full barrels.
I've always wondered what percentages of readers- both here and of the comic- are players. For the first couple of years, of course, the only readers were from paintball boards, but after a while, readers migrated over from other comics, from some of the machinist and hotrod boards I've been on, and other sources.
I've guessed that the current readership of the comic is probably less than a third past or present players, but that's just a guess. It could be half that or twice that. I have no idea.
