Two things

First: the film that really started the comics-into-movies trend was Superman: The Motion Picture. It was the success of the first film in the Christopher Reeves library that started the trend - and led to Batman, which led to Spider Man, which led to X-Men, and so on.

Of course, Reeves' version of Supes wasn't the first, but it was the first of the "blockbuster" comics movies in the modern era. And the way movies are going nowadays, it could be that the idea of creating a "motion picture" would be silly come ten, twenty years from now.

Second: Schlock Mercenary might make a good option - pitch would be "Guardians of the Galaxy meets The Office". Only problem is, then Chris Pratt would have to be cast as the Captain...
