Iron block, aluminum head, yep.

And that's what I'm afraid of, that I'll have to do a full teardown of the whole damn engine. It's the very LAST thing I want to do right now.
If it goes to that extent I do have a spare engine, but it needs a rebuild, and we're talking a few grand between everything I want to do.

I JUST put a fresh head gasket in the car, and did all the top end seals. I'm just really hoping that maybe I just damaged the gasket when installing or something.
Just irks me in this case that I can't get an older style gasket from a reputable supplier. I'm guessing they all source from the same place, including Toyota, and that's why they're all apparently the same exact gasket whenever I look. The trouble is that I don't want a new style MLS gasket, I want a graphite composite, exactly like the original one. But I can't find one. Not even from Toyota.
