We chose Juneau for a few reasons. Less travel time, slightly off the beaten track (yeah, it's the state capital, but in our region at least, everyone who goes to Alaska seems to choose either Anchorage or Fairbanks), a smaller city for us country folk to feel less like total gomers in, and still plenty to do. Also airfare was about $400 less. As for August, well, it's when we could both get time off. Looking at the forecast, I'm pretty happy. 50s-60s and rain is kind of my perfect weather - and a nice escape from an Indiana summer.
I am so stoked about the seafood. We're too far inland to get it fresh for a decent price, and I plan to gorge myself on it all week.
The site updates for me between 7:30 and 8:00 Eastern most days. I usually check it at work.
