They kind of did the reverse of that where I lived in Ohio some years ago. The city had planted a bunch of pine trees along the streets and parkways one summer, but come the holidays people were cutting them down in the dead of night to use for Christmas trees and wreaths. So the city came up with this spray, made from skunk scent and other pleasantries, and sprayed the remaining trees. While it was cold (i.e. outdoors) you couldn't smell it, but once you brought it indoors it stunk up the whole house. And also the bank branch I used to deal with.
