Unless you have your Email listed on your Drivers License application, then this is probably a scam.
However, in the days of Snailmail, I got a Parking Ticket from NYC, Claiming my vehicle had been impounded for incorrect parking. that is interesting, because according to the ticket, I was improperly parked in NYC at the time I was working in Buffalo NY.
Apparently the police officer wrote the wrong License plate down. and they just entered it into the DMV database, came up with MY NAME so bingo, instant letter, which then turned into fines for failure to pay in a timely manner. but the real fun was the threats to sell the vehicle that had been impounded, because apparently even the officers at the impound yard kept incorectly inputing the plate number, what I really had a problem with, was the fact my plate was for a 73 Chev G20 van. and the ticket was for a 77 Pontiac Lemans.. I almost lost my license and registration , took my lawyer and multiple letters back and forth between NYC and him before they finally admitted their mistake. I never did get an answer as to why a pontiac Lemans was tagged with commercial registration plates.. or that may have been the case, it may have had the exact # as my commercial registration but was a passenger car. I dunno, I still have a file folder with all the details and letters from various agencies involved, Just in case this BS rears its head, I get this feeling of dread whenever i have to enter the DMV to do something.
