Fairchild-Republic did an amazing job designing the A-10.
Triple-redundant controls including fail-over to manual control if hydraulics go out, designed to be flown with half a wing, half a tail, and one engine shot off of it. Landing gear is designed to drop rearwards so air resistance can lock it, etc, etc. The list just goes on and on.
A-10 design strikes me as being so much more skillful than more modern jets like the F-22, where they've been plagued by avionics issues, poor cockpit layouts, mechanical issues, etc.
