Lots of 80s era shows had Paintball-themed episodes. Paintball was just as well known back then, though it was looked as an adult-oriented sport. I was the only under-18 player at my local field.
Anyway, I remember the Equalizer episode. It featured a local indoor field where an accident occurred. Someone snuck "real" bullets into a PGP, and someone was shot by accident.
Sledgehammer used a more typical approach with a paintball game in the background.
Lots of 80s era movies. Some used paintball, as itself, some used paintguns disguised as real guns. But the movie that got me into paintball was "Zero Boys" around 1986. THe movie started out with a urban paintgame, but they used red paint to make the audience think it was a real battle. Everyone played dead when hit, but then at the end of the "game" everyone came back to life.
Other good 80s movies were "Alls Fair". That had SMGs, and all sorts of goodies.
