As I remember the story, Jim confirmed that USI operated as a copycat business, and he was a machinist there. The guy that owned USI apparently bought a bunch of ICS gear at a trade show, brought it all to the shop to have patterns made of it all, then brought it BACK to the trade show the next day and returned it all.
So, yeah I'm not surprised Idema took a shot a the first USI employee he saw after that, and Jim fit the bill as a USI employee at the time.
