Went down to a flea market that my dad and I frequent and found a guy selling tons of older machinist tools for pretty reasonable prices.
Ended up picking up a like new Mitutoyo 505-637-50 6" dial caliper and an older Starrett No. 284 29* screw thread tool gauge for $55 all in. Pretty pleased to be only 1/3 of the retail into it all together.
Don't have a need for the Acme gauge really but I figured it would be one of those things that would be handy if I ever need to grind some acme tooling. I'd be surprised if anyone else had one in our shop.
For the question does anyone know when about Mitutoyo stoppped using red boxes? All of our shop's Mitutoyo boxes are either black or a browny beige and I'd be interested to know how long mine has been sitting in it's box unused.
