      And on top of everything else, it's ignoring the obvious thing--going straight to a Mars colony is stupid in the first place. What needs to be done is to get a self-sustaining lunar or orbital habitat going *first*, both to use as testing and proof-of-concept of the Martian habitat, and to use as a staging ground for the longer mission--ship the parts out of Earth's gravity well using reusable craft, and then build the actual long-haul ship so that it doesn't need a big honking booster just for the first (pun entirely intended) stage of the trip.
