Adenomyosis and TL

by sal

I've had a TL when I was 21, the day after childbirth. I wish I never had it done. One day post TL, I noted a difference in the way I bled. I dropped a clot that was so big that covered the bottom of the toilet. I literally thought I had dropped another baby.I never clotted previous to the TL.

My cycles changed drastically after the TL. They were heavier with lots of clots. As time passed, the bleeding and clotting was worse as was the cramping. I bled so heavily that my iron was practically depleted and I lost a great deal of hair. My uterus was enlarged and my endometrium was very thick. I've gained a lot of weight and just felt like crap, but my doctor didn't think it was caused by the TL but by my weight. I know different. I know my body and it changed immediately after having the TL, but could not convince him or others.

To stop the bleeding, I had an endometrial ablation. That stopped the bleeding, for three years, but the cramping continued to get worse. My cycles started back up and I was told that my endometrium grew back. I was happy because I remarried and wanted a child. We were planning to get a reversal and had a hysteroscopy to make sure there was enough lining. To our dismay, there wasn't. We were crushed. A portion of it was totally destroyed from the ablation.

My cycles fluctuated and started to get heavy and clotty again. A couple of weeks before to a few days into my cycles, I would get severe, urgent cramping with bowel movements. A doc diagnosed it as irritable bowel syndrome, but I don't believe this because it happens mid-range and into my cycles. Due to my symptoms and the hysteroscopy, I was diagnosed with adenomyosis and it was suggested to have a hysterectomy if I couldn't cope with the pain or bleeding any longer. This has been devastating, but at least I have a diagnosis now, and it makes sense.

To this day, I regret having the TL. I often question whether the doctor suspected I had adenomyosis when/before the ablation was done. I wonder if anyone can tell me if the adenomyosis is a result of having the TL?
