I'm feeling a little better

by michelle arthur

I received my saliva hormone test results in October 2003. I am about where I should be for a woman of my age, but the woman who did the tests said she would have loved to see the same tests results 13 years ago. She stated that "of course" there could be, and often are problems after a tubal due to atrophy of the ovaries caused by decreased blood flow. She did state, however, that not all women have the kind of problems I have been dealing with. Reassuring news-unless you are the one experiencing what I have gone through for the last 13 years. Anyhow, I am on a regimine that includes: Pregnenalone, Essential fatty acids (GLA and DHA), DHEA, extra calcium, magnesium, vitamin c, something called support adrenals. This is in addition to thyroid medication, lithium, paxil, remeron, buspar, vitamin B-12 (for pernicious anemia) clinoril (for fibromyalgia, minocycline (for acne), HZT (feet swelling) and potassium. She feels that a lot of my weight gain was caused by changes in my metabolism caused by the psych meds, and excess cortisol production. I lost 14 pounds in the first month. Now, I am on a diet based on the glycemic food index, and actually have a bit more energy. She doesn't know if all the weight will come off, but really feels that by eating the proper foods in the right combinatins 5 times a day will at the very least give me back some of the energy I have had drained from me. My hope is that as my hormones become balanced, that over time I will be able to get off some of the psych meds, and get the "old me" back. She's been gone a long time, and I am looking forward to making her acquaintance again. I spread the word as much as possible to people I know that if they know anyone who is contemplating having a tubal ligation, to please, please do a lot of research, and I refer them to this website. WHY do they not tell you any of this before you have the procedure????
