Glad I did some research

I'm new to the board, and so glad that I found a place that I can contribute to women's health....

I have NOT had TL, but am expecting my 2nd baby in about 5 weeks. I am relatively "radical" in that I don't trust doctors... I have found that my chiropractor and nutritionist have helped my overall "health" much more than any MD. My philosophy is to gather as much information as possible, from all possible sources then make my OWN decision on what I think is right/wrong/good/bad, etc.

I just wanted to write to thank "the site" for existing, and the women who are members for contributing and writing. As I'm 36 and expecting my 2nd baby in a few weeks, and don't plan to have any more, I figured it was a good idea to investigate birth control options since hormonal options (birth control pills, etc.) don't work well for me (very bad side effects - depression, total loss of libido, etc.) I think I have a severe hormonal imbalance as a result of high-carb, low fat diet (damned that STUPID FDA PYRAMID!) Anyway, I've suffered bouts of depression periodically through the years (been on BC pills from 18-28 or so) and thought they were safe.... after my son was born 3 years ago, I suffered severe post-partum depression, I personally think bordering on psychosis. Lucikly I didn't hurt anyone, but I was miserable for about 2 years. My doctor asked what I was using for birth control and I told her "my nasty attitude and vaginal sahara are MORE than enough." It was a sarcastic but wholeheartedly true answer. My poor husband!

I have since gotten on a better nutritional program, higher protein, lower carb diet (eliminate as much "processed" food as possible) and have been struggling to feel normal for the past 3 years. I have also read some interesting books: "Women's Moods", "Hormone Deception" and "The Greatest Experiment Ever Performed On Women" which chronicals how the medical/scientific community knew as far back as WW2 I believe how utterly toxic hormones are to women, but they are so profitable that nobody does anything about it. If you're at all an advocate for women's health, I highly recommend these books. I wish I had my younger years back (and the benefit of the internet back then) to know then what I know now. I only hope that by dedicating myself to better nutrition and avoiding hormones and advocating for women's health issues will make a difference.

That's a long, round-about way of saying "thank you" to this site and all the comments from those of you who have been through TL because I will now be sure to NOT even consider this method of birth control. It always sounded safe, and I almost anticipate my doctor asking me if I want one since my last child was born by C-section, there's at least a 30% chance of a repeat. I am also using this information to prepare my husband for all the horrible things that CAN happen during a birth - emergencies that might require him to make a decision that I can't make for myself (hysterectomy, ovary removal, etc.) and I'm literally going to write up a statement as to what is permissable and what isn't.

Scary world out there.

Thank you all for the valuable information, sharing your stories. I hope that you all find health and peace. Seek out a good herbalist and nutritionist as there are herbal things you can do to ease the discomforts of hormonal imbalance, regadless of the cause.

Good luck to all... Hopefully our daughters (and sons) will be protected from the silent mutilation of hormone manipulation (I'm even afraid for my son.... what effects will the "male contraceptives" in development have on their health???

We're screwing with mother nature and she's going to kick us off the planet before relinquishing control!
