Thinking about what Tom and what a friend of mine said, I called our insurance company today (something I hadn't done--my H and the HR director had done). The very kind rep I talked to said that covering our daughter wasn't up to them--it was up to my H's employer. "So if they tell you to cover her, the insurance company will cover her?" Absolutely, I was told.
Something stinks worse than fish in Denmark, to paraphrase.
FYI, I do NOT like the currenty HR director for a variety of reasons, and this is just one more.
My H sent an impassioned email to the CEO, who spoke to the VP of finance, and the upshot is that they will make an exception for us, and our insurance will cover our daughter up to $100,000.
The insurance company will be notified within the next day or two at most.
My daughter and her boyfriend/fiance will still have to get insurance through the state program for their baby, but that won't be a big deal because neither of them has their own insurance.
Everyone please join me in my fairy happy dance!!!
Wow! Glad it worked out with the insurance. One less worry for you.
I know the circumstances aren't all that you could wish, but babies can bring such joy. They are a miracle! Wishing you and your family all the best (especially your daughter) and praying that all goes well.
In addition to getting insurance, Thursday afternoon I got a phone call from my supervisor from the local community college where I teach. It seems an instructor decided he couldn't finish out the semester, and I was asked to take his place. So even though I missed out on pay from the first half of the semester, as my class didn't make, at least by taking over his class, I will get paid for half a semester. Good news when I was resigned to not making any money this semester.
I'm so happy for you. Things are on an up swing. Yeah!
The no insurance thing is a killer. When H got laid off about 6 months ago we had no ins for 4 months. It was nerve racking. The middle class status added to our issue of getting state aid. It was so pissed. Anyway we have now and so does your D!
