The bottom line is that Bush laid the pipe for a long tough slog with this economy and now that Europe is involved so much the worse. Let's do a what if - suppose that old fossil McCain would have gotten in - what do you think the results would be? I doube seriously that any candidate from the Repubs would have done any better and since most Repubs are big fans of austerity - coming out of a depression in 2009 that might not have worked too well.
