Michael Jackson's fame reached a self-sustaining level long ago. In a few years, there will be far more pilgrimages to Neverland than there are to Graceland. The Jackson family will market Michael's memory like Elvis's family does his, and the record sales will continue. Unfortunately it doesn't matter how good MJ actually was.

Yeah, I knew I was setting myself up for that. It just seems like the criticisms of Jackson ran in a different direction than "clever and cunning abuser of people". (Except as presumptive explanations for the molestation charges.) But who can say what he was really like? |
