Thanks for the link, Falc. This is the first time I read about the details. Back in '79, when I was in High School, I loved hearing about the anti-Disco rally being planned at Comisky Park. It was often mentioned during baseball broadcasts on a humorous side note, but that was in the weeks leading up to the event.
Then the rally turned into a riot, and all the professional moralizers went berserk. Oh dear, oh dear, we can't have sports fans rioting in America! It did seem to be a troublesome development, but HA HA HA, is was also fantastic to hear about people not liking Disco. Maybe the entertainment industry would finally get the message -- Disco wasn't for everyone! It still gives me a good laugh.
Reading the Wikipedia article, I think watching the riot on TV was probably better than being there.
Edit: I forgot to mention... Congrats on your new addition, Falc! Just don't teach the little guy how to Disco. |
